Trailer Park: Get Ready For Head-Scratching Sci-Fi In “Looper”

Apparently time travel is a bad thing. A very, very bad thing.

In the future, time travel is outlawed by the government, but it still exists on the black market. The only people who use it are criminal organizations that assassinate people by sending them back into the past to be killed by a hired gun waiting for them on the other side. This gets rid of any evidence of their murder as it technically happened decades beforehand. However, what happens when the target that one of these assassins is waiting for in the past happens to be a futuristic version of himself? That’s exactly what the new sci-fi movie Looper deals with.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Looper stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as Joseph Simmons at the age of 25 and 55 respectively. It’s the younger version's job to basically kill himself from the future, thus creating a known endpoint for his own life. But when the older version flees, both men become targets. It’s an interesting concept that will certainly have our brains working overtime while watching it.

With a cast that includes Willis, Gordon-Levitt, and Jeff Daniels, Looper has more than enough talent behind it to keep us emotionally involved with the characters. And as long as the tech-based plot doesn’t get too convoluted, we can easily see Looper being one of the more unique sci-fi movies to come out since Source Code.

Looper will hit theaters on September 28.
