Roderick Tademy of Joliet, Ill., is on trial for shooting his 12-year-old son. The boy's mother testified that her husband suffers from delusions: back in December of 2010, the 37-year-old schizophrenic shot his son in the head, claiming that he "thought he saw vampires."

According to Antoinette Tademy's testimony, her husband began drinking at 7 a.m., crushing half a bottle of vodka prior to the murder; she said that liquor intensified his hallucinations. On the day Tademy shot his son, Obedyah, he had accused the boy of molesting his then-6-year-old twin sisters, though there's no evidence of this.

After the shooting, Tademy told his wife he was "losing his mind" and tried to commit suicide with the murder weapon. She was able to take the weapon from him before fleeing. Obedyah is now in a long-term care facility, and has lost the ability to breathe, walk, or talk on his own.
