Last summer, Verizon finally stopped offering unlimited data plans to new customers. Old ones already penciled into contracts with unlimited plans could stick with the original terms, so all was fair in the universe. Now, according to company CFO Fran Shammo, Verizon will be putting an axe to unlimited data, forcing all users to tiered plans upon their next upgrade.

With the shift towards 4G LTE across its entire network, Verizon is pushing customers towards data share, in which folks can spread out their usage across multiple devices, (i.e. a smartphone, tablet, and laptop) and cut down the need for multiple plans. Though it’s quite obvious that what Verizon really wants is for its users to cut down their data usage overall, since there’s a finite amount of bandwidth to go around.
