There are usually three signs that signal the end of a once-great TV show. First, a main character leaves for better opportunities. Second, the plots begin to become less believable than before. And lastly, new actors are brought in to try and inject fresh blood into the show. All three have happened to The Office over the past few seasons, and it is evident that the series is about ready to close its doors.

But in an attempt to prolong the life of the show, NBC is considering rebooting the popular comedy, which would feature some existing characters working alongside a brand-new cast, according to Deadline. Series producer Greg Daniels will be behind the reboot if it ever takes off, and he is meeting with the network soon about potential directions the show could go in.

The reasoning behind this is that series regulars John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B.J. Novak, and Ed Helms all have expiring contracts at the end of the season, and there has been very little progress in getting new deals in place so far. Also, even if they did sign new contracts, there is no way of knowing how many episodes each actor would commit to due to their increasingly busy schedules.

This sounds similar to what ABC did with Scrubs in its last season by having two or three main characters stick around while a completely new cast formed around them.

Spoiler alert: it didn't work.
