If you caught the season premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday, you weren't alone. According to EW, the first episode of the second season pulled in 3.9 million viewers, which is a series-high and up 74 percent from the series debut in 2011.

These numbers are rare for a subscriber network like HBO, but what is even more impressive is that the episode beat out the season premiere of AMC's The Killing (1.8 million) and the latest episode of Mad Men (2.9 million). And when you include all three airings of the Game of Thrones premiere on Sunday, the episode pulled in a total of 6.3 million viewers. Anyone concerned about the longevity of Game of Thrones can rest assured, a third season is simply inevitable at this point.
