Upon hearing that Junction Point and developer Dreamrift were working on a 3DS-spinoff of Epic Mickey 2 called Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, many 16-bit era gamers were hoping that the game might be connected to the Sega Genesis classic, Castle of Illusion featuring Mickey Mouse.

If you're one of those people, then today is your lucky day.

Disney UK has released the first details on Power of Illusion, revealing that the game is, in fact, a giant homage to Mickey's classic adventure. Looking at the screenshots, the game is the spitting image of a 16-bit era platformer.

Though the game harkons back to Castle of Illusion, it is still a part of the Epic Mickey franchise, which means Mickey's brought his magic brush along. Players will use the touch screen to draw objects that will transform into the game's art style.

Power of Illusion's plot similarly fuses the old and new franchises. The Castle of Illusion, never referenced since the Genesis game, has appeared in Wasteland, the world of forgotten Disney ideas. The castle's inhabitants, led by the evil witch Mizrabel, is planning to bring herself back to prominence by stealing the energy of currently-popular Disney cartoons.

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion will remind you of the good old days this fall.
