Bethesda And Mojang's "Scrolls" Lawsuit Has Been Settled

Mojang gets the name, Bethesda gets the patent.

None

Minecraft creator and Mojang head Markus "Notch" Persson may have been truly living in a fantasy world when he decided to name his next game Scrolls. Maybe he could have flown under the radar if he was still an unknown indie dev. Unfortunately, Bethesda noticed the title's similarity to their popular Elder Scrolls series and decided that they own the word "scrolls."

Bethesda's resulting suit against Mojang has finally been settled, and the results appear to be beneficial to both parties. "The settlement is that we give them the trademark, get to keep the name, and won't make an Elder Scrolls competitor using the name," Notch tweeted earlier today.

Apparently neither party was made to pay damages, another tweet revealed, although a bunch of lawyers no doubt got rich. Do you think Bethesda's lawsuit was frivolous? Were they just money-grubbing, or was there a legitimate possibility that consumers would get Mojang's game confused with Bethesda's series?
