Team Meat announced via Twitter that they're remaking Super Meat Boy for touch-based devices. A six-part twitter blast explained their philosophy for the project, including the rationale behind rebuilding the game instead of simply porting it.

Yes, I said rebuild. In order to ensure that the game is just as enjoyable on touch platforms as it is with a controller or keyboard, Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes are planning to rebuild the game from the ground up. The touch version will be a "larger", "more traditional" platformer, but it won't be "a simple game like 'doodle jump'" with "shitty touch controls", according to other Team Meat tweets.

The bottom line: The devs say "It won't play like SMB".

Lastly, Team Meat said that they've just started working on the project, and are still unsure if they'll actually be able to make a game that meets their high standards. They tweeted that if the touch controls don't seem to be working, they plan on scrapping the project to "move on to the next idea".

Sounds like a win-win to me, guys.
