Dean Parisot, the director behind Galaxy Quest and Fun with Dick and Jane, has been hired by Summit to helm the sequel to its 2010 comedy hit, Red, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original movie centered on a group of retired special-ops agents that reunited for one last mission. It went on to gross more than $200 million worldwide, and is viewed as Summit’s second most important franchise behind Twilight.

Recognizing what made the original so successful, the studio is planning to bring back Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and John Malkovich for the sequel, but no deals have been finalized as of yet. If Willis does sign on, production on the movie will begin when he is done with Die Hard 5 towards the end of the year.

While the original Red was based off a comic book miniseries written by Warren Ellis, this will be a completely original story as there has never been a sequel to the book. We’ll have more details on this project as they become available.
