Could minimize threat of identity theft.

Paypal hopes to thwart spam e-mails and phishing scams with the formation of a new group, the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance), comprised of the top e-mail clients and security vendors.

Phishing e-mails—in which senders masquerade as legit companies to trick users into handing over login info—is the most common cause of leaked photos and music, as well as identity theft.

The coalition—including the likes of Google, AOL, Microsoft Hotmail, Bank of America, and Fidelity—plans to create “a trusted e-mail ecosystem” that would automatically validate all e-mail senders, thereby minimizing the threat of phishing.
