Microsoft's next console may feature the ability to record not only TV shows, but music, DVDs, and even local and online gameplay, IGN reports. The company filed the patent for the custom DVR device in 2007, and it was approved this past December (does it really take that long for a patent to be processed?).

Microsoft responded to the IGN's inquiries: "As an innovator we're always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect. [Talk about back door bragging...] We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. Beyond that we don't comment on rumors or speculation."

Well, you just did comment. Microsoft's been pushing the TV thing pretty hard as they move the Xbox 360 closer and closer to the all-in-one living room entertainment thingie every like corporation dreams of producing. Being able to record and play back movies, TV, music, and especially games would be awesome, you have to admit. Do you see yourself using a feature like that?
