After years of mediocre installments, 2011's X-Men: First Class returned Marvel's merry mutants to big screen prominence thanks to a strong script, fantastic cast, and the stylized directing of Matthew Vaughn. For a while it wasn't exactly known if Vaughn would return to the franchise to continue his visionary take on the X-Men, but now Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has just finalized a deal to bring Vaughn back for a sequel to First Class.
This news comes just months after the studio confirmed that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt would be returning for the second installment of the revitalized Apes franchise. Now Fox is the studio behind two of the freshest franchises in Hollywood, and they seem committed to keeping the creative tone of both consistent throughout the series.
Michael Fassbender, who played Magneto in First Class, has gone on record as saying that he is looking forward to coming back for a sequel and that James McAvoy will be joining him as well. There is no word as of now on what the sequel will be about or how many other members of the original cast will return.
