Looks like Dexter might have some competition on the small screen. A&E is developing a drama that will serve as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic horror film, Pyscho.

According to Deadline, the new show will "delve into how Norman Bates’ dark, twisted backstory from childhood through his teen years and will chronicle how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping shape the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history."

Hitchcock's famous flick has already suffered through a number of re-imaginings, including a remake in 1998 starring Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates and a British television series in 1999.

Say what you want about the unnecessary proliferation of sequels, but we're actually kind of psyched on this one.
