The 1970s post-apocalypse film Mad Max (and all its sequels) are perfect for video games—after all, as the Australian Financial Review puts it, creator George Miller has been "watching imitators clean up for years." There's no denying that wasteland games like Fallout 3, Borderlands and Rage owe a lot to Mad Max, and they've been doing quite well for themselves. So "Miller is now finally going to make Mad Max, the game," the article says.

With the success of L.A. Noire, Miller believes games have finally become an able vehicle for storytelling, as able as film, at least, and maybe more so: “A game can literally become the equivalent of a novel,” he said. “That is the thing that people like me who write screenplays envy about novelists: that you can actually stop time and explore little cul de sacs. Whereas in a movie, you’d love to stop and examine that character, but you can’t."

Miller formed an Interactive branch of Kennedy Miller Mitchell, the company he founded in 1973, after the collapse of Australian game development studios Krome (who were in the middle of creating the Happy Feet 2 game) and Team Bondi (who imploded despite L.A. Noire's success). Krome maintained their offices and absorbed the remaining members of Team Bondi, including Brendan McNamara, who will presumably now be working on the Mad Max game in addition to his just announced Whore of the Orient. We've got our fingers crossed that it won't crash and burn.

Do you think Miller should focus on his new Mad Max film, Fury Road, instead of delving into games? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter or Facebook.
