Though Intel processors power the lion’s share of the most popular desktops and laptops, the company has yet to make any headway into the mobile market. According to Intel brass, its Medfield chips should begin arriving in devices in the first half of 2012, bringing a suite of capabilities as yet unseen in industry leader ARM’s hardware.

Technology Review got their hands on Intel prototype devices and the smartphone—running Android Gingerbread and similar in size to the iPhone 4—was able to play Blu-ray quality video and stream it to a TV set. Also, the Medfield chips are specifically designed to speed up Android apps and web browsing, which TR’s tests proved true.
