After debuting in the 2011 MacBook Pro in the early part of the year, Intel's Thunderbolt ports will be making their way to PCs in 2012, according to a report in Taiwan's DigiTimes.

The ultra high-speed data ports, which can transfer at speeds of up to 10 GB per second, can be used to link to displays, portable hard drives and other peripherals. Currently an Apple exclusive, Thunderbolt figured prominently this year in a series of Mac refreshes, including those for the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac and Mac Mini.

DigiTimes says Sony, Acer and Asus are first in line to bring the tech to their PCs, which could happen as soon as April.
