Let this be a lesson to anybody who has ever made light of the seemingly pointless Farmville products for sale: leave the nerds alone, they are single-handedly keeping our economy afloat.

A recent study released by the University of Maryland found that Facebook Apps have provided 235,644 jobs to a fledgling market, while raking in $15.7 Billion for the economy.

The study was conducted by the co-directors of Maryland's Smith School for Digital Innovation Il-Horn Hann and Siva Viswanathan, who compiled their findings by combining the amount of jobs created for developing, consulting and programming on Facebook Apps with separate data on jobs that support those created apps.
