Does it really take two directors and a batch of writers to make an Underworld franchise entry? We guess it does.

The fourth installment of the still popular Underworld franchise boasts the return of Kate Beckinsale alongside the directing pair Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. Set 12 years after the events of Underworld: Evolution, Selene is back in front of the camera (after not being in the Rise of the Lycans prequel), and finds that the world has changed for the worst. Humans have figured out the existence of both vampires and werewolves and are intent on making them both extinct.

Selene (Beckinsale) escapes imprisonment after years of captivity, puts on the skin-tight leather jumpsuit, and kicks ass in HD slow-mo. Will that alone return this franchise to its former glory? You be the judge. Underworld: Awakening also stars Michael Ealy, Charles Dance, Stephen Rea, and teen drama queen India Eisley, as Selene's daughter. Prepare to have all sorts of weaponry chucked at us in 3D on January 20, 2012.
