Deadline reports that Kevin Costner has been tapped to play Ace Woody, an evil slave driver, in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming western revenge flick, Django Unchained. Costner will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, who will play the slave ranch's owner, Calvin Candie. Costner's character is in charge of training and pitting the slaves against each other for the entertainment of the white customers, and the role is said to be just as cruel as Christoph Waltz's character in Inglorious Basterds.

Along with DiCaprio, Costner will be joined by Jamie Foxx, who will play the lead role of Django, a slave turned bounty hunter who attempts to free his wife from Candie’s ranch. The aforementioned Christoph Waltz (Academy Award winner for Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds), meanwhile, will play a German bounty hunter who shows Django how to properly stalk and kill.

Django Unchained will begin production this fall, backed by the Weinstein Company and Sony, on its way to a Christmas 2012 release.
