Trailer Park: Brad Pitt And Jonah Hill Go Line-For-Line In "Moneyball"

The unlikely duo stars in this real-life story about how the Oakland A's returned to competitive glory.

Jonah Hill is certainly stepping up his pedigree. The funnyman recently scored a Johnny Depp cameo for his undercover cop reboot 21 Jump Street, and now the first trailer for his team-up with Brad Pitt, the true-life baseball pic Moneyball, has surfaced. And it looks quite good.

Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A's back in 2002, who was given the task of assembling a championship-caliber team; while doing so, Beane quickly noticed that his old-school mentality needed to change in order to compete with much richer ball clubs. Hope came in the form of the socially inept Peter Brand (Hill), who, along with Beane, used intensive statistical analysis to produce big results.

Philip Seymour Hoffman reunites with director Bennett Miller (who called the shots in 2005's biopic Capote) to play A's manager Art Howe. So, yeah, you've got Pitt, Hill, and Hoffman together, in a sports flick that appears to mix in some subtle comedy with its underdog drama. With this effective trailer, Moneyball has quickly jumped to the top of 2011's must-see list, because, frankly, the world needs a new baseball movie that's actually good. Our Major League DVDs are skipping at this point due to overuse.

Moneyball, which should (hopefully) both challenge the heart and soul of America's pasttime as well as reinvigorate the whole "sports movie" genre, swings for the fences on September 23rd.
