And, no, Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell will not be involved. You can breathe easy.

Director David Slade finally has some good help lined up for his planned reboot of the Marvel comics superhero Daredevil. 20th Century Fox has brought on Fringe writer-producer Brad Caleb Kane to pen the screenplay, which will be based on Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's "Born Again" storyline.

Kane, who also wrote the Antoine Fuqua directed Brooklyn's Finest, plans on making Miller's seven-issue story, first published in 1986, the basis for Slade's film. Per the comics, the arc revolves around the efforts of Wilson "The Kingpin" Fisk (played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the awful 2003 Daredevil flick) to systematically destroy Matt Murdock's life after his girlfriend sells his secret identity to bolster her drug addiction.

Slade has said before that his film "will bare no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way." Considering how dark the director's past, non-Twilight pics (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night are a part of his resume) were, he seems well-positioned to take Frank Miller and Brad Caleb Kane's gritty subtext and deliver a truly engaging Daredevil film that could wipe the stain of 2003's shitfest from our collective memory. Or at least we hope that will be the case.
