Ben Westhoff has an answer to the indignant refrain of Goodie Mob's "Dirty South." After conducting extensive research, including interviewing Scarface, Lil Wayne, Big Boi, and others, getting these artists to open up about their own histories and the history of the genre they participate in, Westhoff has written Dirty South, a definitive history of southern hip-hop.

Westhoff reads at Book Thug Nation in Williamsburg tomorrow at 7 p.m. For a clip from an interview between the author and DJ Paul discussing a run-in with a Memphis cop, click here.
