Upfront Week doesn't start until next week, but that didn't stop Fox from shaking up the television world on Tuesday night. The network axed all five of its bubble shows, while picking up four new pilots.
The dearly departed? The Chicago Code, Lie to Me, Breaking In, Human Target and Traffic Light. All five possessed middling ratings, but it does seem a bit shocking to see The Chicago Code not make a second season; after all, its creator, Shawn Ryan, has a great reputation and was the man behind The Shield. Unfortunately, Code wound up in the same boat as Ryan's other cop show in 2011: Terriers. Both appear canceled too soon.
Before you weep for Shawn Ryan though, let's celebrate the series pick-ups. For starters, J.J. Abrams returns to Fox (where he has had the cult hit Fringe for three seasons) with Alcatraz, a sci-fi-y procedural starring Jorge Garcia from Lost. There's also The New Girl (formerly Chicks and Dicks), a comedy starring Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson. Also added to the schedule: the Bones spin-off, Finder, and the comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter with Jaime Pressly.
Fox might still make some more additions to their lineup at upfronts next week.
