David O. Russell, who was set to write and direct the big screen adaptation of Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune video game, has left the project over "creative differences" with Sony.

While the split was amicable, according to Screen Rant, it seems that Sony Pictures and Naughty Dog weren't too fond of the negative buzz about the movie. With all of Russell's boasting that his film would have a "family dynamic" which would involve New York, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and gangsters, it simply wasn't the Uncharted that gamers are familiar with and, in most cases, wanted.

Sony will continue to aggressively develop the project, but with Uncharted 3 set to debut this fall as one of the year's most anticipated video games, will Mark Wahlberg still star in the flick? We didn't co-sign Marky Mark's appearance in the movie anyways and hope that they scrap the casting, the script, and start fresh entirely.

UPDATE: Looks like Sony was listening and will use an earlier draft of a script written by Conan scribes Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer
