No Schwarzenegger, no Mars, and no three-breasted hookers? No interest.

In yet another example of Hollywood trying to overthink a tried-and-true formula for success, the filmmakers behind the Total Recall remake apparently decided to radically ignore the source material. The 1990 original movie and the Philip K. Dick novel/source material were both set on a colonized version of Mars, but the remake is completely leaving the red planet out of the script, according to Bloody Disgusting.

With the setting removed, the flick looks like it’s going to just be a thinly veiled adaptation stripped of everything that made the original unique. And apparently Bokeem Woodbine has been cast as "[Farrell's] best friend who has a kind of big brother relationship with him." Huzzah.

Between Len Wiseman’s spotty directorial track record (he was behind the first two Underworld movies), the casting of Colin Farrell as Quaid and the removal of Mars as the setting, this new Total Recall might have a chance at beating out Battlefield Earth as the bane of the sci-fi crowd.
