The Lone Ranger is a big movie—so big, in fact, that actors are lining up in droves for a shot at the title role.

According to TheWrap, Ryan Gosling is one of several actors in contention to play the fictional masked hero.

Director Gore Verbiniski (the first three Pirates Of The Caribbean movies) has already secured Johnny Depp for the role of Native American sidekick Tonto. Whoever joins the cast will portray "a masked lawman who, with his Native American friend, fights injustice."

In other Gosling news, the Oscar-nominated actor has been confirmed to star in the just-announced Warner Bros. mafia flickThe Gangstar Squad. As for The Lone Ranger, that one's scheduled for a 2014 release.
