While it has been known for quite some time that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard have been in the casting mix for director Christopher Nolan's third, and final, Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, there's been a lot of speculation over who they will actually be playing. But after months of false reports and wishful fan thinking, a press release from Warner Bros. has divulged all of the information.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a beat cop assigned to work under Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman), while Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member who assists Bruce Wayne with continuing his father’s philanthropic work.

“When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again,” said Nolan in the press release.

Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard will join Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, and Josh Pence in the conclusion of Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20, 2012.
