The crime-fighting cyborg could be back (and in 3D) thanks to the "Elite Squad" director.

The Robocop reboot may not be aiming for The King's Speech-like Oscar success, but according to Deadline it may be adding some elite-ness to its roster courtesy of director Joe Padilha. The original film about a police officer who, after nearly being killed in the line of duty, is rebuilt as a crime-fighting cyborg spawned two shittastic sequels and a few TV spinoffs.

Padilha, best known for his successful Brazilian films Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within, is in talks with MGM after Darren Aronofsky (The Wolverine) dropped out to work on other projects. Now that the studio has corrected its financial woes, the ball is in Padilha's court.
