The "Big Love" star will play one of history's most famous alleged murderers.

During a web video last month, Chloe Sevigny talked about playing Lizzie Borden in an HBO mini-series following her stint on Big Love. And now it appears everything is official: Sevigny will star in Lizzie Borden, a four-hour mini-series from Tom Hanks' Playtone productions.

The film will follow Borden, an 1893 It Girl who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe (they were slashed 41 and 40 times, respectively), only to be acquitted in the court of law. (Um, spoiler alert.) Not that it mattered, since Borden was shunned with public condemnation -- a condemnation that stands to this day. To wit: Can you even hear the name Lizzie Borden without thinking of an axe murder?

No director is yet attached, but here's hoping for someone who can be creative with the scenes of gore and horror. After all, even if this one is a courtroom drama, it has to include some flashbacks.
