We can see the lazy critic’s quote on the poster already: “It’s the female version of The Hangover!” The sad thing is, people actually get paid to make obvious statements like that, clear-as-day parallels to recent hit movies that are plastered all over billboards and television commercials. But let’s focus on what’s really important here: the first trailer for the Judd Apatow-produced, all-funny-women romp Bridesmaids (out on May 13). Leave it to the reliable Apatow to award Saturday Night Live’s sketch-stealer Kristen Wiig her first starring role, alongside some other ladies with top comic chops (Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, The Office’s Ellie Kemper). Directed by experienced TV episode helmer Paul Feig (Arrested Development, The Office, Nurse Jackie), Bridesmaids is about two women who duke it out while trying to plan their best friend’s wedding party. This trailer includes a few jokes that fizzle and others that score, but, with a cast like this, plus Apatow’s involvement, we’re anticipating a winner.

Now here's the kind of chick flick we'd gladly pay to see.
