You hear it all the time: Playstation 3 has nothing on Xbox Live. Well, now that may all change. Starting today, PS3 users can download PlayStation 3 System Software Update v3.40, which brings with it a slew of upgrades aimed at directly challenging Microsoft's online gaming stronghold. With the update, users get the ability to subscribe to a new subscription service called PlayStation Plus, which lets users access new gaming features, free games, demos, betas, and a bunch of other stuff you get with a Xbox Live Gold membership. You also get a new video editor, new photo gallery (shown above), and power-saving features. PS3 users may lament the loss of their free online service, but, hey, you gotta pay to play.
