To promote his upcoming beat battle against Timbaland, Swizz Beatz linked up with Kendrick Lamar to have the Compton rapper speak on Swizz's greatness. In the process of praising Swizz, Kendrick revealed that he hopes to one day work with the producer.
"Being a student of rap, when I first started rhyming, what I used to do is check the fucking credits," Kendrick said. "This is something that I don't know, you know, the kids are doing today, but I'm going to explain to you. Checking the credits, this is how I know I wanna work with Swizz Beatz one day. I remember my favorite fucking beats—checking the credits—say Swizz Beatz on them."
While Kendrick still holds out hope to one day work with Swizz, his six-year-old son Egypt already has a production credit on the track, "untitled 07 l 2014 - 2016," off K. Dot's untitled unmastered. project, which dropped last year.
"Like, really, that was his brain child -- his mind," Alicia Keys explained in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "He heard these melodies and one day, he was singing these things, and I was like, 'Babe, what is that?' and he's like, 'Oh, that's the new song for Kung Fu Panda 4.' I said, 'There is no Kung Fu Panda 4,' and I said, 'Hmmm, you're hearing something.'"
"So, I had him go pick it out at the piano," she continues. "He figured out the melody, and then his daddy took him to the studio, and he played all the different instruments in the studio, played the keyboard, programmed the drums and did what he heard."
Maybe one day Swizz will be as lucky as Egypt to work on a K. Dot track.
