Schoolboy Q and ASAP Rocky Brought Out Kendrick at BET Experience and People Lost Their Sh*t

If you're a veteran fan of hip-hop, odds are you've seen or heard about a ton of super groups who never ended up coming together, or collaborative efforts that stayed locked in the vault for far too long. The perfect example is the T-Wayne project that finally dropped this year, almost a decade after it was initially put together.

But every once in a while, the planets align just right. Saturday night at the BET Experience event in Los Angeles, fans were treated to a team-up between a couple of today's best and biggest rap crews, with Schoolboy Q and ASAP Rocky throwing down on stage with a little help from Kendrick Lamar. The TDE and ASAP crews were proud to share the stage, showing off their respective imagery while tearing down their set together.

But what started out as a set involving the Mob and Schoolboy Q quickly went to another level when Kendrick hit the stage, with the crowd going noticeably crazy when K Dot came out to perform his hit single, "Humble."

Fans were pumped about seeing them take the stage together and they weren't the only ones feeling good about it. TDE's own Ab-Soul had to salute the moment with a Tweet after the performance, commemorating it in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Unfortunately for those who weren't aware of the performance, Soul's tweet was interpreted as a sign of future collaborations to come, and fans freaked the hell out accordingly.

The two groups do have a storied history of working together, with Schoolboy Q and ASAP Rocky specifically developing quite the rapport over the years, and Kendrick Lamar linking up with Rocky on "Fuckin Problems." They're not frequent collaborators, but they have always shown mutual respect for one another—Rocky suggested he'd like the crews to "collide" for more work way back in 2015.

But before you start hyping yourself up about any future work together, remember what the TDE crew has said about collaborating amongst each other, let alone with other groups. Soul and Q conducted separate interviews within days of each other in early June, and each expressed reservation about a Black Hippy album, explaining they all had their own priorities to balance. 

"People don't understand when you're working on an album and you're getting into a groove, it's hard to stop that groove and that zone you're in, that vision you got, to jump onto a whole new thing and restart from a blank sheet basically," said Q at the time. "We don't just put albums out and call it something and it's just a bunch of dope songs, everything we do over there is like a concept."

That would go double if the TDE collective was trying to get something done in the studio with ASAP Mob. Ferg is hard at work on his upcoming Still Striving project, Kendrick Lamar is touring all summer, and there are a million other hurdles to clear in order to make a link-up happen.
