Melissa McCarthy as press secretary Sean Spicer is comedic gold.

Before we get to see McCarthy’s skits—particularly the one which features her as Spicer scooting around New York City with her moving podium—she kicked off SNL with a monologue that celebrated Mother's Day. She took a mom named Joan backstage to meet Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and musical guest Haim.

Melissa McCarthy is one of the hosts for SNL’s live coast-to-coast shows. Jimmy Fallon and Chris Pine have hosted in the past. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is scheduled to host on May 20 with musical guest Katy Perry.

This will mark McCarthy’s fifth time hosting SNL, granting her a membership card to the Five-Timers Club. In 2017, it’s been her portrayal of Sean Spicer that’s been getting a lot of attention. She’s appeared as Spicer for the first time when Kristen Stewart was hosting, and returned for a hilarious cold open that featured Kate McKinnon as Jeff Sessions. She recently made an appearance for an Easter-themed apology sketch that poked fun at the Trump Administration.
