Harry Styles' debut solo album is out today. Early reviews are solid, and Styles would presumably much rather be talking about that, but here we are. During an interview with Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1 Friday, Styles was asked about the rumors of "Two Ghosts" being about Taylor Swift.
"You're gonna be asked about this, I'm doing you a favor here," Grimshaw told Styles after mentioning the spat of headlines alleging that "Two Ghosts" was written about his relationship with Swift. "What is the song about?"
After somehow managing to not roll his eyes, Styles answered by keeping it coy. "I mean, I think it's pretty, like, self-explanatory, right?" Styles said. "I think, you know, it's about sometimes things change and you can, you know, do all the same things, and sometimes it's just different, you know?" Grimshaw then played the track in question, jokingly calling it "the one about Taylor Swift."
Styles' 10-track, self-titled debut album was teased with a pair of performances on Saturday Night Livelast month. The album itself is decidedly retro, taking a more rock-oriented approach that Styles has said is simply a reflection of his influences. In an interview with the New York Times' Joe Coscarelli published on the eve of the album's release, Styles opened up about his process.
"The guys that I was working with [the writers and producers Jeff Bhasker, Alex Salibian, Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon], we were kind of all working it out together," Styles said. "But in terms of choosing the songs and the track listing, it was probably time for me to have to make some decisions for myself and not be able to hide behind anyone else. As a person, too, probably. Everything, workwise, that I'd done since I was 16 was made in a democracy."
