Here's another name to add to your list of futuristic beat producers: Frythm.
Heavily inspired by artists like Flume, Cashmere Cat and FlyLo, Texan producer Matthew "Frythm" Pena's productions cover that murky intersection between hip-hop and R&B. On his latest single, "Breakthrough", the Texan producer drafts in old friend Rome Fortune, who delivers his equally mercurial flow over a hazy, smoke-filled beat that sways between woozy Southern hip-hop and futuristic R&B.
"I wrote this beat when I was going through some very tough times mentally," Pena explained to Complex, "so everything came out so raw and organic. Then the feature with Rome just happened. I had the opportunity to open up for him about a year ago, in my hometown. We stayed connected through social media and I decided to send him a raw version of the beat and the rest is history."
