Lil Yachty Just Upgraded Katy Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm”

Lil Yachty remixes Katy Perry's chart-topping hit, "Chained to the Rhythm."

Katy Perry has spent most of the last month doing everything in her power to promote her latest single, "Chained to the Rhythm," which features Bob Marley's grandson Skip Marley. She has performed the song at the 2017 Grammy Awards. She has released an elaborate (and likely expensive) amusement park-themed music video. And she has even allowed the indie band Hot Chip to give the song an electronic remix. As a result, the song has climbed as high as No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Late Tuesday, "Chained to the Rhythm" got another push when Lil Yachty revealed he had also given the song the remix—er, "BoatRemix"—treatment. On Lil Boat’s version of the song, the beat has been slowed down dramatically, which allows for him to flex his Auto-Tuned vocals on the track. "Chained to the beat now/Feelin’ good, got good vibes," he croons. "Take a shot, baby, loosen up/You the star of the scene now/I went from readin’ magazines to being on the cover/Get up in the groove now/Let me see you move now."

Yachty also punctuates his performance by yelling "I love you, Katy!" as only he can after dropping a second verse on the song.

"Chained to the Rhythm" serves as the first single for Perry’s fifth album, which is still without a release date. Outside of helping Perry push her song, the "BoatRemix" of "Chained to the Rhythm" should also help get some fresh eyes and ears on Yachty as he prepares to release his debut album, Teenage Emotions, sometime later this year.
