Chance the Rapper Calls Out Trump: 'I’m Tired of N***** Talkin’ About Chicago Like It’s a Third World Country'

Chance the Rapper is not here for Trump's negative comments about Chicago.

After the 2016 Chance the Rapper had, he has a right to ride high. The success of Coloring Book turned into three Grammy wins this past Sunday, which he will be celebrating with a 37-date tour this spring. Chance has been a huge part of this new wave of Chicago hip-hop, giving the city a spiritual, vibrant boost in creativity. That said, he's also one of the more thoughtful, outspoken artists on issues that affect the city, so it made sense that he'd address President Trump's frightening obsession with the current issues that plague Chicago.

For those who don't remember, Trump tweeted that he'd "send in the Feds" if Chicago doesn't "fix the horrible 'carnage' going on," as if it's that easy to cure years of systemic racism and easy access to firearms, but I'm sleep. In a recent interview for The Undefeated alongside ESPN the Magazine featuring Chance the Rapper and Chicago Bulls player Jimmy Butler, they asked about Trump's comment and how the overall perception of Chicago due to this one violent aspect of the city. Chance pulled no punches in his response.

"I hope he’s coming in to do some type of federal overturn of our state and city budgets in terms of schooling and housing," Chance begins, talking about what Trump should be doing when it comes to bettering the city of Chicago." "I’m tired of n—–s talkin’ about Chicago like it’s a Third World country. Like, that it’s not a place of booming business with a very successful downtown and all types of new development."

"It sounds like he was announcin’ he was going to war with Chicago," Chance continued. "I don’t like to look at s— through that lens."

Chance also spoke on the "hard balance" of being a young, black male from Chicago in the world today; you can't neglect the negative side, but at the same time you have a duty to provide some kind of inspiration for people.

Now, while Chance isn't taking Trump (and anyone else) to task for their treatment of Chicago, he's trying to get to the bottom of these celebrity hook-ups. In case you weren't on Twitter yesterday because you were snuggled up with bae (as you should be), you couldn't miss the social media lovefest that Eric Andre and Rosario Dawson were engaged in. We'd actually looked at the brief history of their relationship earlier this week, but on Valentine's Day theytook it to the nextlevel, with Chance actually texting Dawson to ask if the relationship is real (which is some of the realest sh*t anyone could do).

He tweeted this because I text Rosario asking if it was a joke 😭😭 https://t.co/UQ2sQZeAPs

We respect Chance's level of inquiry, as well as his dedication to doing right by Chicago. For more from Chance and Butler, check out the full article over on The Undefeated.
