Makonnen came out as gay early Friday morning. He made his revelation by sharing a series of tweets with his fans. "As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out," he wrote. "And since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay. And now I’ve told u about my life, maybe u can go life yours."

Makonnen also shared the news on Instagram along with a screengrab of his tweets. "Thank you for letting me be myself," he wrote in his IG caption.

Makonnen broke onto the music scene back in 2014 with his hit song, "Tuesday," which received the remix treatment from Drake.

He was once associated with Drake’s OVO label, but he announced that he was no longer signed to the label in April 2016 after releasing a pair of projects, iLoveMakonnen and iLoveMakonnen 2, through OVO.
