Exploring the full spectrum of his musical capabilities in recent years, SLANG has been more commonly known under the moniker Dan Dare—lending his sought-after songwriting and production talents to the likes of WSTRN, Charli XCX and Wiley. For those paying even closer attention, SLANG was also once known as Brutality, an emcee within West London grime crew Gritty Committee. Having paid his dues and put in his hours of graft across differing scenes and genres, to close out 2016, SLANG is now taking his sonic stylings in a more contemporary direction.

Debut single "YAY (You Alright, Yeah?)", he says, is about "a conversation I had with friends when I was younger; we were starting to understand a lot of the problems and the drugs that surrounded our families and friends." Delving into topics surrounding mental health and therapy, it's a deeply personal record but one that will undoubtedly resonate further. A sombre and melodious guitar-led effort, it's equal parts downbeat and hopeful and ultimately showcases the duality of human emotion and hope. Listen below.
