OVO Sound Radio returns for its 35th episode with special guests DJ Premier and Murda Beatz.

DJ Premier made a name for himself as one half of the critically acclaimed duo Gang Starr. Premier also lent his production talents to artists such as Nas, Jay Z, Notorious B.I.G., and Christina Aguilera. With the death of fellow group member Keith “Guru” Elam in 2010, Premier continues to represent the Gang Starr brand while expanding the profile of his Year Round Records label. Some 25 years after Gang Starr debuted with No More Mr. Nice Guy, DJ Premier added to his catalogue with Prhyme—a group comprised of Premier and Royce Da 5’9.

As for Murda Beatz, the Fort Erie, Ontario native has OVO ties given his board work on the French Montana and Drake collaboration “No Shopping.” Murda Beatz boasts a diverse resume, with credits ranging from Jeremih to Migos and Freddie Gibbs. Fans of trap-related rhymes may possibly be quite familiar with Murda, as he’s credited for production on Gucci Mane’s “Back On The Road,” 2 Chainz’s “A Milli Billi Trilli,” and Peewee Longway’s “I Got The Money.”

While the episode marks a somewhat odd pairing, Premier and Murda may soon share the distinction of being Grammy-winning producers. Premier took home a Grammy in 2007 for his production work, as Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. And for Murda’s part, Drake’s Views is nominated for both Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. The track “With You” was produced by Murda Beatz.

Oliver El-Khatib started off the show with an update for Drake's More Life. We can now expect the "playlist" to come out at the top of 2017. "Drake is in the studio chefing up magic," El-Khatib says. You can tune into episode 35 of OVO Sound Radio here.
