Complex named 20-year-old musician Kevin Abstract one of the 20 artists to watch back at the top of 2016, and it looks like he's finally delivering on that promise with the release of his sophomore album American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story. The 16-track project includes the previously released singles "Empty," "Yellow," and "Miserable America."

On Twitter, Abstract revealed that he almost didn't put "Yellow" on the album. "fun fact: i didn't want 'yellow' on the album at all @ first but michael pushed so hard for it everyone thank this guy," he wrote, referencing producer Michael Uzowuru.

Abstract described the album's influences in a recent interview with Fader. “A little bit of Goo Goo Dolls, Sunny Day Real Estate, Vanessa Carlton—stuff you would hear in a Chili’s,” he said. During the same interview, he opened up about what he hopes people get out of the album. “I just want people to be able to put on American Boyfriend and accept to not know... To not know anything about everything," he said. He expanded on that idea in a USA Today interview from early 2016. “I want kids to live through this character I’ve created,” he said. “I want them to say that they are Kevin Abstract because they relate to it that much.”

American Boyfriend is Abstract's second album, following the release of MTV1987 in 2014. After living through several name changes and delays, fans should be excited to see the album finally out.
