Multi-platinum singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran is sporting a small scar on his right cheek thanks to a royal prank gone wrong. Multiple British news outlets reported Sheeran was accidentally cut by Princess Beatrice of York while attending a party with his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn and fellow singer/songwriter James Blunt. Beatrice is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. Things apparently took a turn when Blunt joked about wanting to be knighted.
“The royal had grabbed a sword after soldier-turned-singer James Blunt, 42, joked that he would love to become a Sir,” reported Michael Hamilton and Ben Lazarus of The Sun. “But as she said, ‘Arise, Sir James,’ she is believed to have misjudged the weight of the blade and had no idea Ed Sheeran was standing right behind her.”
Sheeran was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for to treat a gash, which appears just under his right eye. The Telegraph reported Sheeran received stitches, returned to the party, and performed at a local concert the following night.
The small cut can be seen on Sheeran in various photos he’s taken with fans since the incident occurred. Sheeran hasn’t publicly spoken on the injury, as he’s taken an extended break from social media.
This isn't the first haphazard injury for Sheeran, as he accidentally burst an eardrum in 2015 while jumping from a yacht.
