D.R.A.M. has been killing it recently. His Lil Yachty-assisted banger "Broccoli" continues to climb the Billboard Hot 100 (and recently went double platinum), and he's kept up a steady flow of hot singles ever since. Over the weekend, he decided to stop by Sway in the Morning to chop it up about his recent success, his album preparation, and his thoughts on the criticism directed at new-school hip-hop.

They got to talking about D.R.A.M.'s creative process, which he revealed is very organic. "We do a lot of shit from scratch because I kind of want to have each of us entering each other's worlds," he said of working with new producers. He also talked about how music helped him gain self-confidence. "I always knew I could do things musically and things of that nature. But at certain times in your life it just doesn't matter as much as the task at hand. But I'll tell you this, whenever I did have that mic, still to this day, that's when I feel the most powerful."

Of course, the group's talk of representing new-school hip-hop well led to Sway getting D.R.A.M. to freestyle live on the air. D.R.A.M. is known just as much as a singer as he is a rapper, but that doesn't stop him from busting out some great lines. He spits bars about how his life has transitioned from Oodles of Noodles to steak, his skills in the recording booth, and of course his love for weed.

You can check out D.R.A.M.'s whole interview as well as his funky freestyle in the video above. The freestyle starts around the 16 minute mark.
