There is hardly a bigger feud in hip-hop right now than the relationship between Birdman and Lil Wayne and now another figure of hip-hop royalty is allegedly stepping in to get things sorted. According to TMZ, Rap-a-Lot Records CEO, J. Prince, is going to ensure that Birdman pays the money that is due to both Weezy and his own son, Jas Prince.
"Where [Wayne] is weak, I am strong. He has gained an ally, and together we will get back all money owed to him and my son off the Drake albums," said J. Prince. "I witnessed the hard work that went into Drake's career and for Cash Money to try and take something that isn’t theirs to take, does not sit well with me and family around the world."
J. Prince's son, Jas, is widely known for discovering Drake early on and being the person that connected him with Lil Wayne and Young Money. Jas already had his own beef with Birdman and filed a lawsuit to get the money he was owed for linking Drake up with Young Money's parent label, Cash Money. The lawsuit was reportedly settled in October of 2015 for an undisclosed amount.
Lil Wayne has gone on record saying that he will never work with Birdman again. Meanwhile, Birdman is being blamed for the holdup of Weezy's latest album, Tha Carter V, but the Cash Money CEO claims it's actually Lil Wayne holding up the album. According to the report, Wayne is holding on the album for leverage during his ongoing $51 million lawsuit with Cash Money. In addition, there is a reported $8 million album advance plus another $2 million owed upon the album's completion that Wayne says he never received.
In the heat of it all, Wayne even hinted at an early retirement because the whole feud and legal battle has left him feeling defeated. Thankfully, he later admitted he isn't retiring from the music game. Here's hoping J. Prince is finally the one who can solve this once and for all.
