UPDATED August 6, 1:20 p.m. ET Freddie Gibbs’ lawyer, Theodore Simon has reached out to share the following statement:

“Mr. Freddie Gibbs while free on bail in France voluntarily withdrew his procedural extradition appeal. He did so to work cooperatively with authorities to assure a smooth transfer to Austria and to further enhance the opportunity for an expedited decision on the merits. Freddie has faithfully abided by all terms and conditions of his release and transfer set by the Court.

Freddie Gibbs was reportedly extradited from France to Austria and has been held in prison since last Sunday (July 31), according to a new report by Orf.at.

In June, Gibbs was taken into custody ahead of a planned performance in Toulouse, France on alleged rape charges. According to French newspaper La Depeche du Midi, Gibbs was "wanted in connection with a European arrest warrant issued by Austria for a rape allegedly committed in 2015."

Later that month, the Gary, Ind. rapper was released from a prison in Toulouse on $55,000 bail. A French court still issued a European arrest warrant for Gibbs, which he succeeded in appealing the extradition order. One of Gibbs' lawyers, Theodore Simon, stated at the time that “he will continue to abide by all terms and conditions set by the Court as he pursues every available avenue to demonstrate he is absolutely innocent and has been belatedly and wrongly accused."

The statement emphasized Gibbs wasn’t formally charged with anything and the investigation is ongoing. “Mr. Gibbs remains hopeful that a thorough and searching investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one-year old child.”

Orf.at reports the French Supreme Court confirmed Gibbs was extradited to Austria in July, where he is currently being held in custody at a prison in Josefstadt, Vienna. This doesn’t necessarily mean Austrian officials have concrete evidence to charge Gibbs, but they’ll likely question him about their findings.
