Daye Jack follows up the release of "Raw," where he dubbed himself a "villain and a don," with it's official video, which appropriately follows his daily routine as he hits city after city on tour. The black-and-white intimacy of the opening shot captures Jack in the corner of a room, lighting up as he makes his way down an endless staircase until he final makes it to the glaring lights of the stage.
The track is a personal one for Jack, so it only makes sense the video would be faithful to his experience as a rapper."'Raw' is about believing in yourself so much that you become a villain," Jack told Complex over email. "There'll be people around you who you think you're crazy because you're trying to make some outlandish dream come true, but they're wack for that. That kid being picked on for thinking different and chasing his ideas is who I want to sing along to this song cause that shits as raw as it gets."
Still, the visual offers only a taste of life on the road, which Jack told us has already taught him a lot. "I learned a lot from touring, mainly not to stress these groupies; they can be too wild." Jack is set to hit the road with Watsky, which he anticipates will be different than anything he has ever done before. "I've never toured with white rappers before. It'll be fun playing 'Raw' but I'm always skeptical to play my song 'Hands Up' for a mainly white crowd because it coincides with #BlackLivesMatter. I'm being told Watsky's fans are woke, so hopefully there won't be any negativity."
