M.I.A. is going right at the NFL in her new politically charged song "BOOM ADD." The song opens up with a strong voiceover from what sounds like the singer's lawyer. "They're suing you for damaging their fantastic reputation by flipping the bird," he says. "The other part they wanted to reserve the right to sue you later to make you pay for any damages they had." Then, M.I.A. rips the song right open while laying into the organization's 'holier than thou' attitude around an infectious skattering “boom shakka lakka” hook. The track is actually an extended version of "Boom Skit," which appeared on 2013's Matangi.
If you don't remember, M.I.A. flipped the bird during her 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance. The NFL then went after M.I.A. and her wallet in a very big way, demanding she pay $1.5 million in arbitration. M.I.A. and the NFL finally reached a settlement in 2014.
