Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt opened up about all sorts of interesting things in his latest interview with A Country Called Earth. He started off with a discussion of fame, expressing concern about the "deification" of himself by fans. "I’m still not an advocate for deification, so I take every opportunity I can to assert my humanity to those who are still invested in putting me on a pedestal," he said. "Deification divides."
He had high praises for the Black Lives Matter movement, pointing out all the awareness it's brought to the American political landscape. "Black Lives Matter has already demonstrated that it has the power to shift the societal landscape by bringing awareness to age old issues that have plagued us as a people. I’m fully behind it," he said.
Earl also dropped some funny observations, noting that if he could fight an historical figure, it would be Christopher Columbus "for obvious reasons." He reflected on wanting to take a trip to South Africa, where his father Keorapetse Kgositsile is from. "I’m apprehensive about going to South Africa because I still hate attention. There’s still connecting and building to do on a cellular level between my father and I. I don’t want it to get overshadowed by other people’s expectations."
