Bobby Shmurda just can't seem to catch a break. According to a report by XXL, Shmurda's trial date has been moved yet again. Although he was originally set to appear on Feb. 22 to begin his trial proceedings, Kati Cornell, the Director of Public Information at the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor in New York, says that now they won't begin the trial until May 11. This means the "Hot N*gga" rapper will spend at least an additional three months behind bars before his trial even begins, with far more to come if he is convicted.
The Brooklyn native was arrested on Dec. 17, 2014 for charges including conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. On Dec. 18, 2014, he pled not guilty on all counts. He has been locked up since then after multiple attempts to reduce his $2 million bail failed. Although the XXL report originally said his lawyer Alex Spiro had attempted to receive a bail reduction seven times, in an email to Complex he noted this figure was incorrect. He also pointed to his comments in the courtroom, where he said "I don't care if I have to make the request 50 times... Sometimes it takes persistence to show you are right."
Shmurda will stand trial along with several of his GS9 cohorts. "His trial group includes Rowdy Rebel, born Chad Marshall, Santino Boderick aka “Cueno” and Nicolas McCoy aka “Montana Flea” or “Monty," said the report. Several others will begin their trials on Feb. 22 as scheduled, including members known as "Rasha" and "A-Rod."
